EDDIE MESA: Elvis Presley of the Philippines

The decade of the 50s saw the rise of Rock and Roll music led by the King himself, Elvis Presley. Radio stations all over the country played many of the rock and roll tunes, particularly Elvis’ songs. It was during the latter part of the 50s emerged a young man, whose looks and charisma resembled Elvis. His name was Eddie Mesa, the country’s answer to the King of Rock n’ Roll. Two of his earlier films, People's Pictures' Rolling Rockers (1959) and Hawaiian Boy (1959), both with FPJ, starred him as a rock singer. His success in movies and recordings extended towards the 60s and 70s. However, his Christian callings cut short of his movie career. He now devoted his time spreading the Gospel and preaching the word of God.
